Durham Choral Society are delighted to announce that we will be joined by world renowned baritone Sir Thomas Allen for this performance on 25 January 2020.

Fauré’s Requiem is a well-loved work, featuring beautiful melodies throughout its seven different sections. It is perhaps best known for its Pie Jesu and Agnus Dei. In contrast to many other Requiems in the choral repertoire, this work has a serene and peaceful tone: there is no fear of death here. It was performed at Fauré’s own funeral in 1924.

Durham Choral Society are also delighted to be performing Alan Woods’ This Joyous Night, in its twentieth anniversary year. Alan is from Northumbria, and was for many years Musical Director of Durham County Youth Choir, who will be joining us for this performance.
