Durham Music Service is very excited to be re launching its County Youth Orchestra. We want to grow and develop in to a hugely successful orchestra. For this first year we are planning 5 varied concerts with ideas to work with Durham University, perform a concerto with a soloist, a Summer Serenade, and a first Gala Concert in Durham Town Hall along with the seasonal performance of the film The Snowman, which has been a frim favourite at Christmas at Ushaw College for several years now.

We have the fantastic opportunity to be working under the baton of Mark Edwards. His biography includes working with City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and The London Sinfonietta and performing in places such as The Royal Albert Hall. Next season he is working with Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Royal Northern Sinfonia and as well as many other engagements,  us too!

Our aim is to give young players in this region the Big Symphonic Experience, which is quite literally unique in itself. To become passionate about and feel the sound is the essence of what playing in an orchestra is like. For our young players they will receive an experience they can take from their school days into the rest of their adult lives.
