Connecting back to Durham Music Service

Whether you were in a DMS ensemble quite recently or you haven’t played your instrument or sung in a choir since 1975 (or earlier!) we want to connect with you and keep you up to date with DMS.

We are planning to create DMS Alumni events (eg: playing and singing focussed get togethers, social events) and our first project is a virtual version of ‘The Cup Song’ (famous from the Pitch Perfect films).

No great skills are required for this - you can either sing along with the main tune (led by former DMS and now world renowned opera singer Graeme Danby) - or hit some home made percussion - or EVEN do the whole choreographed ‘cup thing’ if you want a real challenge.  If singing is a no no, you can also play the tune on your instrument and we will connect a video together to show all this in time for the Summer Solstice in June 2021.

Later in the year we plan to work on something for Christmas.

Once we’re back in face to face events we would love to have alumni back to the new headquarters of DMS at Ushaw College on a fine summer's day to make some music together, perhaps alongside some of the current ensembles.

We also have a private Facebook group where you can connect with former ensemble friends or fellow instrumentalists and perhaps share stories or pictures from the past.
