About the role

Durham Music Trust is looking for a passionate individual to join the board or trustees and contribute to our growth and development. You will have the opportunity to contribute to the mission of the trust, while ensuring music education can thrive for all young people in Durham and Darlington.

We are looking for someone who has strong links with the north east, a passion for music education, excellent attention to detail and the desire to help develop the trust.

Post Title: Trustee

Location: Durham and Darlington

Payment and hours: Voluntary. Four trustees meeting per year. Two additional meetings for strategy/vision days. 12 hours of prep for meetings plus additional ongoing support to the Founder & CEO.

Length of term: 3 years

About Durham Music Trust

Durham Music Trust was founded in to support the work of Durham Music Service (lead partner in the Durham and Darlington Music Education Hub) to support young people in particular with their musical endeavours and to create exciting musical events to give our young people of all abilities and ages the chance to display their incredible musical talents to our wider community.

Our Aims

  • Support young people in their musical endeavours through a range of education programmes; 
  • Support DMS staff with opportunities to enhance their skills and create new programmes; 
  • Support the activities of DMS and in particular to create exciting opportunities for special events and musical performances; 
  • Offer customised music programmes for pupils with special needs; 
  • Create opportunities for more able and very talented pupils to participate in master classes;

Appointment process

Interviews will take place week commencing 14th October and it is hoped that the successful candidate will be able to attend the next Trustee’s meeting on Tuesday 5th November 2pm – 4pm in Durham.
