CPD

Durham Music Service offers a wide range of training sessions designed to help you develop an engaging music curriculum. The school-based sessions can be booked as one-offs or in a series across the school year. Each session is one hour and can take place after school or during the school day for whole staff training or designated teachers. In addition to our listed CPD programmes, we offer fully bespoke sessions.

got to grips with it? This session will get you started!


Next Steps


Are you getting the best from Charanga? Using the fabulous resources Charanga has to
offer, we will take you through a range of fun and creative practical activities for you to try in
your own classrooms.


Music Skills


First Steps


Fun musical activities you can use in your classes straightaway. Learn key musical
vocabulary and develop your own musical skills and knowledge.


Next Steps


Developing skills using a variety of musical techniques: Compose, improvise and use
notations from traditional “dots” to less traditional squiggles!


Early Years


First Steps


Introduction to Early Years Music: Choosing appropriate repertoire and planning a session.
The training will include lots of practical ideas to use straightaway in your settings.


Next Steps


Embedding music throughout your Early Years settings. Music for transition times, ideas for
child-initiated learning in music and an introduction to Musical Development Matters.


Singing Skills


First Steps


A fun and practical first session. Warm-ups and songs to use throughout the school. Suitable for both those with some musical knowledge or staff with no prior background in leading singing in school.


Next Steps


Building on your staff singing skills; how to sing in parts and take singing in your school to the
next level! Repertoire to use throughout the school year.


Musical Progression - Music Coordinator

Music Technology - Getting the most out of your school Ipads and Laptops


First Steps


Learn to use your school laptops and Ipads to create music and capture pupils’ creativity.
This CPD course is designed to help you become more confident and familiar with user-friendly music technology software.


Next Steps


Using Music Technology with the DMS Progress Map/Model Music Curriculum. Help to progress your pupils with arranging, composition and recording by expanding your knowledge of the software and apps covered in our First Steps session.


More advanced CPD is available for software such as Logic, Cubase, Cakewalk and Reason.

    Whether you are looking to create a whole class rock band, bring a rock gig to your school hall, or compose your own school anthem, Durham Rocks can help. With opportunities to learn instrumental skills through our First Access programmes, expert guidance to develop a rock choir or band, and bespoke composition and music production options in our song writing and music technology courses, we have programmes to get your school rocking!

Durham Music Service is delighted to enhance our face-to-face delivery with an exciting range of virtual musical opportunities.
